Swimming First Lesson How to breathe while Swimming

This video demonstrates the first and most important rule of swimming i.e. breathing. Breathing is important for life. Hence, while swimming you must know how to breathe. If breathing is done properly, it will result in inhaling water to lungs or drinking too much of water which can lead to drowning. Improper breathing leads to panic in the pool. If such panic is in an unregulated water body; could lead to drowning.

If you know how to breathe in water; you can save your life in emergency situations involving water bodies.

The THUMB RULE

Breathe in – Always through MOUTH. Mouth must be above the water surface level when you breathe in. If mouth gets below during breath-in you will drink pool water.

Breathe out- Always through your nose. While breathe out your head should be inside water.

You will see air bubbles coming out in the video. That’s when I was breathing out.

If you breathe out with nose above water surface, you may accidently breathe in through your nose. Accidently you can inhale water.

Swimming is an art. You don’t need to move your hands and legs very fast. Be swift and relaxed. Let Archimedes law help you out in swimming. Enjoy the buoyancy and float. Your correct breathing will help you a sustained fun in water. Swift movements of your hands and legs will make you travel forward in water.

If you are a beginner, make sure you are in low depth pool. At the time of panic you can just stand off. Once you command your breathing, float and forward movements then only you should upgrade your swim to deeper pools.

Apart from being an art Swimming is also a lifesaving skill. Even if you don’t know swimming but you know only two things as below you can save your life if in case you find yourself in a water body.

1. Don’t panic and don’t move your hands and legs too fast

2. Keep your breathing basics right –

a. Breathe in with mouth when mouth is above water level.

b. Breathe out with nose with head inside water. (And enjoy the air bubbles)

Always wear Swimming cap and Swimming goggles in the pool. They will prevent your eyes and hairs from side effects of chlorine in pool water. Goggles will have added advantage of letting you see inside water. This will boost your confidence to learn swimming in a better way. As you can easily see what is happening around you.
